The main difference between AS and other forms of autism is the presence of strong verbal and intellectual skills. These signs include poorly coordinated motor skills, leading to clumsiness or awkwardness.

Early signs of autism spectrum disorder, in general, may appear early in life, with most cases diagnosed in children from 3–10 years old.
